DAVANGERE: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna has alleged that senior IAS officers of the State are getting deputed to Delhi and other places as they are unable to withstand harassment by Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. Addressing a meeting as part of the Congress election campaign at Malebennur on Saturday, Mr. Krishna said the officers were hesitant to comply with Ministerial pressures as they were wary of the legal implications of such decisions. Many senior officers were disillusioned with the way the BJP leaders in the State were functioning and had hence sought relief. He said most of the Ministers in B.S. Yeddyurappa Government had neither administrative experience nor wisdom. Instead of seeking suggestions and guidance from senior officers, they were just ordering them around, he alleged. “When I was Chief Minister I used to consult Infosys Mentor N.R. Narayana Murthy and Wipro chief Azim Premji on many vital issues,” he said and added that there was nothing wrong in asking people for their views while making a decision. Mr. Krishna recalled that there had been drought for three years continuously in the State when he was Chief Minister and even during that period, he had provided nine hours of power to the people irrespective of the areas in which they lived. He said he was always on good terms with all States particularly Karnataka’s neighbours and hence had managed to get power from Kerala and Orissa. Mr. Krishna wanted to know what made Mr. Yeddyurappa effect so many frequent power shutdowns across the State and criticised the BJP Government for not allowing people to live peacefully. He said all reservoirs in the State were full and that there was no drought, but still the Government had failed to provide power to the people. G. Parameshwar, chairman of the publicity campaign of the Congress, and former Minister Y. Nagappa were present.
