Vanisha Mittal, Pia Singh among billionaire heiresses: Forbes

It has named women who follow their billionaire parents into family business

Marina “is already considered one of the world’s most powerful women”

Forbes scoured daughters of world’s 793 billionaires to find “most promising progeny”

New York: Vanisha Mittal Bhatia and Pia Singh, the daughters of two of the richest Indians — steel baron Lakshmi Mittal and real estate magnate K.P. Singh, have made it to a Forbes list of the most notable billionaire heiresses to watch out for.

In the list of ‘Billionaire Heiresses To Watch,’ the magazine has named women, who have followed their billionaire parents into the family business.

Forbes has also named the likes of Holly Branson, Ivanka Trump, Mirja Bauer and Marina Berlusconi, among others.

Ms. Branson is the daughter of American billionaire Richard Branson while Ms. Trump’s father is Donald Trump. The 38-year-old Ms. Bauer is the eldest daughter of German media magnate Heinz Bauer.

Meanwhile, the daughter of three-time Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Ms. Marina, “is already considered one of the world’s most powerful women.”

About the list, Forbes said that these women are the latest in a long line of billionaire offsprings, who have decided to work for mother or father .

“The allure seems obvious: lots of responsibility at a young age, little chance of being fired by the boss and the opportunity to contribute to the family’s legacy,” it said.

To find the “most promising progeny,” Forbes scoured the daughters of the world’s 793 billionaires.

“They range in age from 25 to 59, include a couple sets of sisters and hail from 12 countries and work in such diverse industries as cosmetics, media and shipping,”

Writing about 28-year-old Ms. Vanisha Mittal, the report said she sits on the board of directors of Lakshmi Mittal’s steel company ArcelorMittal.

“Ms. Vanisha Mittal has a degree in business administration from the European Business School and a master’s in South Asian studies from London’s prestigious School of Oriental and African Studies.

“She later interned at ArcelorMittal before getting her seat in the boardroom. Ms. Vanisha Mittal is perhaps best known for her $60-million five-day wedding spectacle in Paris in 2005,” the magazine noted.

Describing her as “the Indian real estate heiress,” Forbes said that 36-year-old Ms. Pia Singh heads up DT Cinemas, an entertainment venture of her father’s property giant DLF.

“Ms. Pia Singh is also chairman of the group’s retail business. She graduated from Wharton Business School and studied film making at New York University,” Forbes said. — PTI
