KCR’s comments annoy TDP president

Special Correspondent

TRS idea of “seeking NDA support” after polls embarrasses Grand Alliance

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday appeared livid though not perturbed by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s latest salvo that he was open to the idea of supporting the BJP-led NDA after elections.

Asked to comment on Mr. Rao’s assertion that had the potential of embarrassing the Grand Alliance, Mr. Naidu quipped: “The onus is on the TRS leader. He has to clarify”. As far as he was concerned, TRS was part of the Grand Alliance which in turn was working towards formation of non-BJP and non-Congress government at the Centre.

He considered Mr. Rao’s comments as his personal views. He was speaking to presspersons after luncheon meeting with CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat.

To a question on TRS’ demand that a resolution on separate Telangana should be moved in the first session of the new Assembly itself, Mr. Naidu said it has to be discussed in the GA meeting. While TDP and CPI favoured separate Telangana, the CPI (M) had certain reservations and hence the need for discussion. But, on its part, TDP was committed to the cause as was made clear in the manifesto.

He disagreed with the view that the Grand Alliance was formed only for elections and said it was constituted for taking forward a particular agenda.

On whether the TDP would take support from Praja Rajyam, if it fell short of required numbers to form the government, he first said he would not respond to a hypothetical question but later added, “The question does not arise as we are confident of forming the government on our own.”

Meanwhile, the party’s Polit Bureau has decided to hold the party’s annual conference, Mahanadu, in Hyderabad. The meeting thanked the Left parties and Telangana Rashtra Samiti for working unitedly to ensure the defeat of Congress and BJP.

The Polit Bureau condemned the “negligence” of paddy and maize farmers by the State government and urged it to take measures for immediate procurement of the produce from them at remunerative prices. It wanted the government to hold talks with Food Corporation of India in this regard.

Tadipatri attacks

It also condemned the attacks on TDP men allegedly by Congress activists during the just-concluded elections and decided to depute one team each to Tadipatri, Jagayyapeta and Addanki to estimate the losses suffered by them. The party would provide assistance to them.
