Contribute to the country’s growth, engineering graduates told

Staff Reporter

RASIPURAM: Bharathidasan University Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko called upon the young engineering graduates to contribute to the sustainable growth of the country’s economy.

Delivering the Graduation Day address at the Muthayammal Engineering College here on Sunday, he pointed out that a large number of people in the country were living below the poverty line.

Skills

The young engineers should make use of their skills to improve the socio-economic condition of all sections of people in the society. The younger generation should commit themselves to bring in a positive change in the society and a balanced growth, he said. Mr. Ponnavaikko stressed the need for broadening social access to higher education.

This trend should change and all the students in the country should be given opportunities to pursue higher education.

Advising the students to update their knowledge continuously, he said practical knowledge was important to emerge successful in the competitive world. Apart from degree programmes, students should also try to join professional courses to improve their skills to match the industry requirements. But many students were not showing interest in the professional courses, he pointed out.

Mr. Ponnavaikko also spoke on the importance of team work, developing positive attitude and leadership traits. Later, he presented degree certificates to 480 students. College Chairman R. Ramasamy presided over the function. College Principal M. Madheswaran spoke.
