This Day That Age
Nearly fifty delegates from South and South-East Asian countries met in New Delhi on April 27 for week-long discussions on agricultural marketing in a technical meeting organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations and the Economic Commission for Asia and Far East. The Union Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr. Ajit Prasad Jain, listed India’s problems with regard to agricultural marketing, particularly in foodgrains, and said that these problems were common to the underdeveloped countries of the ECAFE region. He hoped the deliberations of the conference on reducing the disparity in prices between harvest and the lean season and on reducing malpractices in the market would help in the development of agricultural marketing in these countries.
