Splendid show by Gajender Singh in radial class

CHENNAI: Pulling his boat back to the shores, Gajender Singh presented a picture of a man who had done his job to perfection. Defending his title in the laser radial category, the 26-year-old of Army Yachting Node seldom put a foot wrong on Monday using the wind conditions wonderfully well and in particular was quick on the downward wind as he finished first in all the three races in the Vestas National Laser Coastal sailing championship at the Chennai Harbour.

Unstoppable

Tamil Nadu Sailing Association’s Varun Thakkar is turning out to be unstoppable in the Laser 4.7 class. The 14-year-old continued from where he had left off on Sunday winning all the three races.

On a day when the wind velocity varied between 9 and 12.5 knots, Varun started off really well and was consistently fast on the downward leg that enabled him to win all the races quite handsomely — by at least six to seven to boat-lengths distance.

“It was amazing. I really put my full effort. I was riding the waves better,” said Varun.

Overall, Rajesh is leading followed by Jasvir.
