PRESSING DEMANDS: TNSTC employees observing a fast in Tirunelveli on Tuesday.

TIRUNELVELI: Members of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Workers’ Union observed a fast here on Tuesday pressing various demands.

The protesting workers said financial management of the transport corporations should be taken care of by the State Government since it is purely a ‘service sector’. Temporary workers, who have worked for 240 days in a calendar year, should be made permanent.

Dearness Allowance anomalies should be weeded out and retirement benefits given on the day of retirement.

Office-bearers of the union P. Ramachandran, N. Kalyanasundaram, M. Jayarajan, S. Santhanam and S. Rajagopal were among those who participated in the protest hunger strike.
