21 candidates in the fray

Tirupur: Twenty-one aspirants is gearing up to vie each other to get elected as the first representative of the newly-constituted Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency, after the last date for withdrawal of nominations on Monday.
Of them, 14 contenders, constituting 67 per cent, are contesting as Independents.
Symbols
Based on the criteria set by the Election Commission of India, the election officials here have allocated symbols to the candidates. Official sources said that candidates of national parties had been automatically allocated the symbols which were meant for their use only. Constants belonging to registered but unrecognized political parties and independents were allocated symbols through lots from a section of free symbols.
The following is the list of symbols allotted to various candidates: S.K.Kharventhan (hand);
C. Sivasami (two leaves); N. Sivakumar (train engine); N. Dinesh Kumar (nagara); M. Thangavel (bungalow);
K. Balasubramanian (gas cylinder);
C. Ganesh Kumar (camera); I. Karunakaran (balloon); A.M. Karthikeeyean (television); S. Selvaraj (fork); A Dominic Babu (shuttle); R. Kalaimagal Pandian (basket); P. Bala subramanian (sewing machine); P. Malaravazhi (ring); Mohammed Salika (maize); N. Muthusamy (candles); K.Rathinasamy (ice cream); W. Rajkumar (saw); K. Venkatachalam (table lamp); and Sheik Dawood (banana).
