Driver arrested after dumping dead body

ALAPPUZHA: A lorry driver was arrested by the Edapally traffic police and handed over to the Mararikulam police here on Tuesday when he tried to escape after dumping, at Alappuzha, the body of a person who was killed by the lorry in an accident at Ochira, Kollam.

The driver, Rajeev of Irinjalakuda, was driving the lorry which hit Purushan, 58, a roadside cobbler, at 2.45 p.m. at Ochira in Kollam district. Rajeev assured the locals that he would take the injured to a hospital. However, on the way, realising that Purushan had succumbed to his wounds, Rajeev dumped the body near the Kripasanam Church at Kalavoor here around 4 p.m. and sped away. —Staff Reporter
