Officials directed not to impose power cuts

Chief Minister reviews power situation from Delhi over telephone

Officials told to hold sub-station level meetings to monitor day-to-day power position

YSR unhappy over the explanation given by Medak Collector

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to ensure that there were no power cuts or load shedding in domestic and other sectors, except industries.

The Chief Minister, who is in Delhi, reviewed the power situation over telephone with officials and made it clear that seven hours of quality and reliable power should be supplied to farmers, said a release from the Chief Minister’s Office.

For the industries, the weekly holiday should be restricted to one day since power was being supplied to gas-based power units through East-West gas pipeline of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

He also directed the officials to hold sub-station level meetings to monitor day-to-day power position by involving farmers and consumers of that area to ensure reliable supply to both, agricultural and domestic sectors.

Seeks report

Expressing dissatisfaction over the explanation given by Medak district Collector on the burning up of a dried up paddy crop by a farmer if Aurangabad village, he asked the collector to conduct an enquiry whether power was supplied for seven hours or not for the entire village and submit a detailed report at the earliest.

The officials informed him that the base availability, which increased to 184 MU with additional generation from Independent Power Producers (850 MW) came down to 174 MU due to forced outage of one unit at Lanco (120 MW) and both the units of Gowthami ( 305 MW).

At present, APTRANSCO was supplying 191 MU with a peak demand of 8430 MW. The unrestricted demand was 205 MU and the load relief of 14 MU was mainly from industrial sector.

As of now there were no scheduled power cuts on other sectors except intermittent load shedding only when there was an emergency in the grid due to forced outage of units. The release said that 300 MW was expected from next month first week from Vijayawada Thermal Power Station unit-7 and another 600 MW from May 15 from Gowthami and Konaseeema power units. Power generation from Srisailam was stopped due to low reservoir level since April 5 and from Nagarjunasagar from April 16 as per directions from Irrigation Department.
