Leaders make last-minute efforts in Hassan

Roadshows, padayatra and election rallies mark the last day of campaigning

HASSAN: It was a day of roadshows, padayatra and election rallies in Hassan district as campaigning came to an end on Tuesday.

Janata Dal (Secular) president and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda organised a roadshow in Hassan that started at 10 a.m. and concluded at 12.45 p.m. Accompanied by the former Rajya Sabha Member H.K. Javare Gowda, HDCC Bank president Patel Shivaram, MLA H.S. Prakash and other leaders, he started roadshow from Hemavathi Statue and passed through Mahaveer Circle, Kasturba Road, Devagiri Circle, Gandhi Bazaar Road, Hasanamba Circle, Santhe Pete, Vallabhbhai Road, Basaveshwara Circle and concluded in Hosaline Circle. All along the roadshow, Mr. Deve Gowda waved at the crowd and appealed them to vote for him.

Range Gowda, a resident of Hassan, recalled the lastroad show of Mr. Deve Gowda in Hassan was in 1989. During that time, he went on a padayatra.

Mr. Deve Gowda also held a roadshow, accompanied by his daughters-in-law Bhavani Revanna and Anita Kumaraswamy, in Holenarsipura and Hallimysore.

Congress candidate and four-time MLA B Shivaram went on a padayatra in Hassan at 11 a.m. He started his padayatra in the opposite direction of Mr. Deve Gowda’s rally. He was accompanied by several Congress activists. Mr. Shivaram began his padayatra from Vallabhbhai road and covered Shadi Mahal Road, Santhe Pete Road, Siddaiah Nagar, Hosaline Road, Salagame Gate, Sahyadri Road and concluded at the Hemavathi statue. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa addressed election rallies in Holenarsipura and Chennaraypatna on Tuesday. In Chennaraypatna, when Mr. Yeddyurappa was concluding his address, a person identified as Chandrasekhar of Kodihalli in Holenarsipura taluk threw a chappal at the Chief Minister. However, it fell short of the target. He has been arrested.
