Selection staff have no connection with such agents Selection is done in a free and fair manner KOCHI: The Airmen Selection Centre, the recruitment centre for the Indian Air Force (IAF), has alerted candidates from falling prey to touts offering help to get through the selection process. In a press release issued here, Wing Commander P.R. Chibber, Commanding Officer of the 14 Airmen Selection Centre, Kochi, said the selection staff at Kochi or New Delhi had no connection with such agents. The clarification comes in the light of an incident reported recently from Ezhukon in Kollam, where an agent allegedly collected money from candidates after claiming to have helped them to pass the selection test. The modus operandi of the tout was to make an agreement with the kin of applicants that they should pay Rs.1.5 lakh if the candidate’s name featured in the All-India selection list. He claimed that the money would be shared with Air Force officials. ComplaintThings came to light when the parents of one of the victims lodged a complaint with the Chakkuvally police station, Sooranadu, on April 8. It is also learnt that five or six boys from Kollam, who passed the selection test in December 2008, had been duped similarly, Mr. Chibber said. He said the selection is done in a free and fair manner and is based purely on merit. The sealed question papers are sent by the Central Airmen Selection Board, New Delhi, and are opened only on the day of examination in front of the applicants. The answer sheets are evaluated by a team of officers and warranted officers, drawn from various units. PaymentsApplicants are not required to make any payment for selection or recruitment to the IAF. Any instance of persons posing as recruiting agents should be reported to the police, Mr. Chibber said.
