BJP asks Naidu to clarify stand on Telangana

HYDERABAD: Senior BJP leader Ch. Vidyasagar Rao has urged Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu to clarify his commitment to Telangana in the wake of CPI leader K. Narayana’s remarks that the issue of State’s bifurcation was not on the agenda of the Grand Alliance.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, he lashed out at the CPI and TDP leaders for issuing ‘contradictory’ statements and ‘betraying’ people of Telangana.

A similar controversy was raked up in 2004 by the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) after coming to power in the name of Telangana.

He said since Mr. Naidu had earlier promised to take steps for the creation of new State if the TDP-led alliance was voted to power, Mr. Rao wanted him to play a key role on the issue in the Third Front. Or else he should extend support to the NDA, which promised to initiate the process of Telangana within 100 days of coming to power.
