Bangalore: In the midst of the 15th Lok Sabha elections, the country is seeing a sudden upsurge of youth participation in the process of democracy. The role of the youth in shaping the country’s future has become one of the major factors in this elections. Keeping this in mind and the approaching Worker’s Day, film screenings and discussions on democracy have been organised at the Institution of Agricultural Technologists, Queens’ Road, Bangalore, on May 2. The two films to be screened are Beyond Elections directed by Sílvia Leindecker and Michael Fox and The Internationale produced and directed by Peter Miller. Beyond Elections is a documentary, portraying a journey which takes the viewer to America in an attempt to answer one of the most important questions of our time: What is Democracy? This film will be screened from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Internationale, on the other hand, is based on a poem written by Eugène Pottier, an elected member of the Paris Commune. Peter Miller’s short documentary examines what internationale meant to individuals and social movements in the 20th century. The film includes archival footage and interviews. This will be screened from 7.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, contact Deepu (9448367627) or Siddhartha (9880276820).
