‘Million Dollar March’, a fund-raising mission, initiated by OUAA-NA receives good response It plans to felicitate 90 alumni of Osmania University HYDERABAD: The Osmania University Alumni Association (OUAA) North America branch donated US$80,000 to the university for development of a state-of-the-art computer centre at the Arts College. The cheque was presented to the Vice-Chancellor, T. Tirupathi Rao by Harinath Medi, president of OUAA North America in the presence of Buchanna Gajula, joint secretary; Venkat Maroju, organising secretary; Sharat Vemula, trustee and several other alumni from the US. Tapping resourcesSpeaking to the reporters, Mr. Medi said that OUAA-NA had embarked upon an ambitious fund raising mission “Million Dollar March” and it had received good response. At the same time, there is a tremendous potential to tap resources from the OU alumni across the globe and that should be tapped with innovative projects on the campus. “People are willing to donate to their alma mater but there is a need to network and coordinate the lakhs of alumni,” he said. Mr. Medi said as a part of the 90 years celebrations this year, the association is planning to felicitate the 90 prominent alumni and the alumni or students can nominate these people by sending a form available on ‘ www.ouaa.org.’ Dr. Venkat Maroju said the character of the University has to change on the lines of US universities where distinguished personalities give lectures on regular basis. “That culture has to be developed here too.” Mr. Buchanna said the alumni were very enthusiastic in “paying back” to their institutions and the OUAA-NA was very active in networking the alumni overseas. The V-C said that the alumni were the face of the university.
