Protesters gherao jawans

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Even as campaigning ended on Tuesday in 14 West Bengal Lok Sabha constituencies that go to the polls on Thursday, there was fresh trouble near Lalgarh in Paschim Medinipur district when members of a local resistance group gheraoed some BSF jawans alleging they had intruded into an area which was out of bounds to the police for more than five months.

Lalgarh is part of the Jhargram constituency.

“The gherao, which lasted nearly four hours, was lifted when the local police intervened,” District Magistrate N.S. Nigam told The Hindu over telephone.

The jawans were on a route march in Goyaltor.
