Bagalkot: Over 8,000 poll personnel have been drafted for the smooth conduct of polls in the Bagalkot Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency goes to the polls on Thursday. As per the instructions of the District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner H.G. Shrivar, officers gathered at Shankrappa Sakri Pre-university College and checked the electronic voting machines (EVMs) allotted to their booths and got their doubts clarified with the officers concerned. Of the 1,503 polling booths in the constituency, 325 have been identified as hyper-sensitive booths and 229 have been identified as sensitive booths. There are 13,59,175 voters in the district. Eighty-two per cent of voters have voter ID cards and the remaining voters have been instructed to exercise their franchise by producing other documents as approved by the Election Commission. A total of 1,653 EVMs have been provided of which 1,503 will be used. The remaining EVMs have been kept for emergency use. Security arrangements have been made to prevent untoward incidents during polling. A total of 3,520 police personnel including seven deputy superintendent of police, 15 inspectors, 140 sub-inspectors, 2,800 constables and one KSRP and one DAR platoon each have been deployed in the district. Sale of liquor has been banned till midnight on Thursday.
