Better facilities in medical colleges sought

KOZHIKODE: The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), students’ wing of the Jamaat-Islami-Hind, has urged the government to provide basic facilities in medical colleges. In the absence of essential facilities and teaching staff, courses might be de-recognised by the Indian Medical Council (IMC), he said.

A spokesman for SIO said medical students were deeply worried that their college would lose recognition because of the ongoing “cold war” between doctors and Health Department and posting of teachers on ad hoc basic.

It was unfortunate that basic facilities at the medical colleges in Thrissur, Kottayam and Alappuzha had not been improved though the number of seats there were increased three years ago.

“It is shocking the government is trying to mislead the Indian Medical Council (IMC) that all teaching posts in medical colleges had been filled. This will lead to a decline in quality of medical education,” SIO State general secretary S. Ershad pointed out.
