Demand for Eelam not practical: Swamy

Correspondent

Sirsi: The demand for Eelam by the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa is not practical. The Tamils in Sri Lanka will be happy with a federal constitution, where their rights are protected. They have not asked for a separate nation, Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy said on Wednesday.

He was speaking to The Hindu at Sonda Swarnavalli Math near here, where he participated in the Sankara Jayanti celebrations.

Dr. Swamy said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi knew that he had no public support in the State and wanted the support of the LTTE to be in power.

Asked about the money stashed away in Swiss banks, he said it would exceed more than Rs. 1 lakh crore. The best way to bring it back was to issue an ordinance.

About the possibility of the Third Front coming to the power at the Centre, he said there would be no Third Front. The government would be formed by a new front. But the BJP would have to get ready to assume power at the Centre within two years, he added.
