Any infected passenger would be shifted to a quarantine area. Nedumbassery: As part of steps to prevent the entry of the deadly swine flu into the country, a health cell was opened at the Cochin International Airport on Wednesday to screen passengers from Mexico and other virus-affected countries. Airport officials said that announcements would be made in aircraft requesting passengers from the affected countries to report at the health cell located ahead of the immigration counters in the international terminal. The functioning of the cell is coordinated by the airport health officer, assisted by a private medical team and the government health department. Any passenger, if identified as affected, would be shifted to a quarantine area and later to the isolation ward in the Ernakulam general hospital. Officials coming into contact with the passengers have been asked to wear masks. A committee headed by the airport director has also been formed to monitor the functioning of the health cell. The decision to implement the precautionary measures was taken at a meeting by officials of the airport and various agencies here earlier in the day.
