THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Rural police have arrested a 28-year-old man wanted in several burglary cases in the district. Deputy Superintendent of Police K.E. Baiju, identified the suspect as “Copra” Binu. Mr. Baiju said the suspect targeted unoccupied houses. He used cars, rented on daily basis, for his operations. The Dy.SP said one “Beedi” Suni, Satheeshan and Ratheesh helped Binu in his operations. They were absconding. The police were also investigating an army officer on the charge of hiring Copra Binu and gang for burgling his estranged wife’s house at Attingal. Investigators said gold ornaments and title deeds of landed properties were stolen from the woman’s house. The gang is suspected to be responsible for the recent burglaries at Chirayankeezhu, Munnumukku and Elampa in the Attingal police sub-division limits. Mr. Baiju said Binu broke into houses by prising open the front or rear doors when the residents were away. The method of operation was to apply pressure on the lower part of wooden doors, often by wedging a stone between the door and its frame, and then breaking the lock with a strong push in the middle. Sometimes, the intruders broke into houses through the door leading to the terrace of the house. He was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
