THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Health Department has decided to formulate district-level action plans in all districts to combat the possible threat of swine flu, with the cooperation of the Animal Husbandry Department and the district administration authorities. At a meeting of senior medical officers here on Wednesday, it was pointed out that while there was no need for any panic over swine flu, there should be no let up regarding the preparedness to meet any public health emergencies. Director of Animal Husbandry Department Vijayakumar and Additional Director Udaya Varma attended the meeting. “We are not expecting any public health threat at this point of time. But we have asked district health administration to gear up for any emergencies as had been done at the time when there was the threat of avian flu, by ensuring that personal protection gear and other medical support are readily available to those working in piggeries,” an official said. — Staff Reporter
