Milon Banerjee has devalued his position: BJP
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party continued its attack on the Congress on the issue of withdrawal of the Red Corner Notice against Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, an accused in the Bofors case.
BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley said that the move would mean easy travel for the accused that would help him access, withdraw or move money he held in Swiss banks.
His colleague Ravi Shankar Prasad focused on Attorney General of India Milon Banerji. He said that by giving a “collusive opinion” on withdrawal of the notice, he had “devalued” the high position he held. “The United Progressive Alliance has not only misused the Central Bureau of Investigation, it has also devalued and eroded the credibility of high law officers of the country,” Mr. Prasad said. “We have respect for the office of the Attorney General, but Mr. Banerji has given collusive evidence. He has not appeared for the government in a single high profile case; yet his collusive legal opinion has been taken on several occasions,” Mr. Prasad said.
