CHANDIGARH: Only eight of 23 candidates contesting the Lok Sabha election from Karnal have given their details of expenditure to the nodal officer so far, District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Chander Prakash said on Thursday. Those who have submitted the expenditure details include sitting MP and Congress candidate Arvind Sharma, Mamchand of the Communist Party of India, former Union Minister I. D. Swami of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Manoj Kashyap of Vanchit Jamat Party and Ramesh Chabbra of Haryana Janhit Congress (BL). As per the details submitted, Dr. Arvind Sharma has spent over Rs.3.15 lakh, Mr. Mamchand over Rs.12,000, Mr. I. D. Swami over Rs.4.65 lakh, Mr. Manoj Kashyap over Rs.19,000 and Mr. Ramesh Chhabra over Rs.64,000. Mr. Prakash disclosed that ramps have been made at all the polling booths to enable physically challenged voters to reach the electronic voting machine to cast their votes. He said visually challenged persons would be allowed the company of a person above the age of 18 years with them in the polling booth but this person would have to keep the voting confidential. Furthermore, the person assisting the blind voter would have to sign a declaration that he had not accompanied any other blind person on that day for voting.
