Sonia’s silence over SYL canal flayed

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The Indian National Lok Dal on Thursday hit out at Congress president Sonia Gandhi for not saying anything at her election meetings in Hansi and Ambala about completion of the remaining portion of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal.

Addressing election meetings in various villages of Narnaul in Haryana on Thursday, INLD secretary-general and NDA candidate from Bhiwani-Mahendergarh Ajay Singh Chautala said Ms. Gandhi’s silence on this critical issue had exposed “the double-speak and treachery” by Congress leaders on this issue.

The INLD senior leader reiterated that the SYL canal was the lifeline of the State and people of southern Haryana did not have drinking water because of its non-completion.

Mr. Chautala alleged that the Centre had stalled the SYL project for the past five years and was “misleading” the public.
