KOCHI: Kerala Tourism and district tourism promotion councils have jointly kickstarted an online project to update the figures about the arrival of foreign and domestic tourists into the State. Under this, hotels, resorts, home-stays, guest houses, tourist homes, lodges and ayurvedic centres would have to update details of people who checked in, on a daily basis. Till recently, the job was carried out by officials of the Economics and Statistics Department, who used to go around and collect the details. This was a tough and time-consuming process. Under the new project, each property would be given a login and password in the website of Kerala Tourism ( www.keralatourism.org). In addition, special incentives are being given to properties which do not have computers to purchase them. A meeting was held here on Thursday to encourage more players in the hospitality sector from the district to provide tourist updates online. “There are around 700 such units in Ernakulam. We plan to conduct area-wise meetings to bring in more players under the online fold,” said Ajmal S., secretary of the Ernakulam DTPC. Deputy Director of the Economics and Statistics Department R. Sudharsa and Tourist Information Officer P. Indira were present at the meeting.
