NARAVI/VENOOR: Voters in the naxal-affected areas of Naravi, Kutlur and Sulkeri in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency turned up in large numbers and exercised their franchise on Thursday, ignoring the alleged call for a poll boycott. Polling was peaceful in these areas. Handbills asking the people to boycott the election were reportedly found in a nearby area a week ago. A policeman at a polling booth at Naravi told visiting presspersons that the handbills were found at Peraldakatte in Aladangady under Venoor police limits. Three polling stations at Naravi recorded 47 per cent, 42 per cent and 42.65 per cent voting by noon. In two polling stations at a government school at Naravi, 357 of the 775 voters there had cast their votes by noon. In another booth at the same school, 360 of the 861 voters had exercised their franchise by noon. In the third polling station at the gram panchayat office at Naravi, 519 of the 1,117 voters had voted by noon. A lone polling station at Kutlur, which was considered most sensitive owing to naxalite activities, recorded 35 per cent voting till noon.
