spacescape

An informal space that combines a living area with a dining area, Vharsha and Sunil Raheja’s informal living room makes a great stage for family dinners and parties; it is a place where you can dine, chat and relax. The key to the warm ambience of this space is the floor level furniture they have opted for, a seating arrangement that allows you to stretch your legs.

Cushion-topped thick wooden planks that taper towards the doorway (to avoid tripping edges) and raised just 10 inches from the floor (by in-set wooden props) achieves two things - the comfort of floor-level furniture; and maintenance not being difficult as with a diwan because of the space below. For the back rest, Vharsha has designed a plank with cushions stuck on it, so that space wastage behind the seaters is totally eliminated, besides having some uncluttered space centrally for movement .

The ends of the planks are left free, an ideal place to keep a tray of snacks. The fabric of the cushion is in rustic brown, while the (Kongu wood) planks have been stained and polished in a rich chocolaty brown shade, which means that they are virtually stain and dust insensitive.

For décor, there is muted lighting and dry flower arrangements for everlasting appeal, requiring no watering or replacement, unless of course, you want a change.
