Kudumbasree to implement the programme with the support of Newman’s College Children to be familiarised with developments in astronomy KATTAPPANA: The Idukki district unit of the Kudumbasree Mission has come out with a project to spread awareness on scientific developments in villages and to train children in developing scientific equipment like telescope. The project named Science Village will be implemented in association with the department of physics of New Man’s College, Thodupuzha. Kudambasree district mission co-ordinator K.P. Venugopal told The Hindu that classes on scientific developments would be given through Balasabhas, which will be organised across the district. Children will be trained in developing telescopic machines. Awareness classes on astronomy will also be organised. In the second phase of the project, night camps will be organised at the college for children and they will be familiarised with the latest development in the field of astronomy, he said.Seminars will be held on developments in physics. Many Kudumbasree members attended a recent workshop organised at Munnar for the Balasabha trainers. According to Mr. Venugopal, the project began on Tuesday at the Balasabha camp held at Edavetty grama panchayat. A report on various other programmes to be implemented in the current year has also been prepared, he said. Dr. Joe Jacob and Mr. Ravi K. Pillai, department of physics, New Man’s College, are extending support for implementing the project.
