Party no bar

Langar and Manganiyar folk singers of the desert region in western Rajasthan are doing brisk business performing in political rallies being organised in the Lok Sabha constituencies such as Barmer, Jodhpur, Jalore and Bikaner in the run-up to the May 7 polling in the State.

The folk artistes are routinely invited to election meetings to entertain the audience till the main speaker comes.

The folk singers have no specific loyalty but to the party that asks them to come and perform at the rallies. One of the most popular traditional compositions sung by them in the rallies is “Kesaria balam aao nee, padharo mhaare des ji” (I beseech you, welcome to my homeland) to greet the guests coming to the gatherings.
