“Remove side middle berths”

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has called upon the Southern Railways to remove the side middle berths from all coaches.

Though a decision to this effect was announced in the Railway Budget, it has not been removed in many trains. Keeping in mind the welfare of the public and the commuters, the side middle berths must be removed at the earliest, the association has said.

Resolutions to this effect were passed during the association’s executive committee meeting held here on Tuesday.

Plan to meet CM

A. Jeyaseelan, Salem City Chamber of Commerce General Secretary, the special guest of the meeting, said that a delegation would meet the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister after the parliamentary elections to seek a solution to the long-pending problem of Market Committee Cess.

Association president K.S.R. Natarajan presided over the meeting while association secretary P. Subash Chandra Bose spoke.
