Youth thrashed for stalling engagement

KARIMNAGAR: Villagers thrashed a youth when he tried to stall the engagement function of a woman by claiming that he was in love with her, in Basvapur village of Sircilla mandal on Friday.

The marriage of Akula Jamuna (20) of Basvapur village was fixed with a boy of Peddalingapur village but the accused, M. Kiran (22), of the same village went to Peddalingapur village and informed the girl’s fiancée that he was in love with Jamuna. At this juncture, the fiancée of Jamuna went to Basvapur village and informed her people that he would not marry her. Later, Jamuna’s parents and other villagers caught hold of Kiran, thrashed him and handed him over to the police. Jamuna too slapped Kiran with her slipper.
