PIL filed against forming police union

Mohamed Imranullah S.

MADURAI: A public interest litigation petition has been filed in the Madras High Court Bench here alleging that a police inspector and a constable from Tirunelveli had formed an unauthorised police union and were campaigning against the ruling party.

A Division Bench of Justices S.K.Krishnan and M.Venugopal on Thursday ordered that petitioner S.Nambi Thevar of Alanganallur near here should be present in the court for the next hearing and adjourned the case to third week of May.

Earlier, Special Government Pleader (SGP) Pazha Ramasamy told the Bench that enquiries conducted by the Revenue and police officers revealed that the PIL petition was filed in a fictitious name with ulterior motives. He wondered how the petitioner could have had access to representations sent by the alleged police union to the Governor stating that the administration was “acting against people and in violation of democratic principles.”
