Arrested
KRISHNAGIRI: Four persons were arrested, including a habitual offender, for conducting ‘katta panchayat’ near Krishnagiri on Friday.
According to the police, C. Manalapan, T. Theta Manalapan, G. Muthooran and a habitual offender Kannadivedi alias Vediappan of Periayamuthur were arrested on the charge of conducting katta panchayat and extortion of money from Muniappan of Kollaikottai in Periamuthur.
It is alleged that Muniappan and his uncle had family dispute for the past one year. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused mediated between them through ‘katta panchayat’ and extorted Rs. 20,000 as fine. They also threatened the wife of Muniappan and demanded more money following which they filed a complaint with the police.
