Blast damages four houses

BANGALORE: A blast caused due to a domestic gas cylinder leak caused anxiety among residents at 1st cross, Kasturba Nagar, Palace Guttahalli on Friday. Four houses were damaged in the blast.

According to Vyalikaval police, Gopal, an agarbathi dealer, lived with his family on the first floor of a rented building. He was one of three tenants in the building, while the owner stayed on the ground floor.

On Thursday evening, Gopal and his family members left to attend a family function and did not return. Early in the morning, the residents woke up to a loud blast.

The police came to the spot and found that the gas cylinder in Gopal’s house was leaking. The police said the family members had forgotten to switch off the gas stove and gas regulator. The fridge, television and other articles in Gopal’s house were also damaged, the police said.

Ends life

A 23-year-old lab technician from a private eyecare hospital committed suicide at his house in Shanti Nagar on Friday, the police said.

According to the police, Bipin B.S. (23), a native of Thiruvananthapuram, was upset that his family had opposed his idea to marry his childhood sweetheart. Two days ago, he left the hospital after informing his friend about his problems. He neither came to work nor took calls on his mobile phone.

On Friday, the Ashoknagar police came to the house after neighbours informed them about foul smell emanating from there. The police entered the house and found Bipin dead.

Suicide bid

A 35-year-old police constable from City Armed Reserve attempted suicide in his quarters at Thanisandra on Friday.

The Hebbal police said Nagaraj (35) was placed under suspension on Thursday following an inquiry for his absence from duty for a few days.

On Friday morning, Nagaraj consumed milk laced with poison. Neighbours who saw Nagaraj falling unconscious took him to a private hospital, where he is recovering.

Held on rape charge

The MICO Layout police arrested Muktiyar Sab (56) for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl at Bismillahnagar.
