Water to be released from Koyna

Bangalore: Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Saturday agreed to heed to Karnataka’s request to release 1.5 tmcft of water from the Koyna reservoir across the river Krishna. Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had written to his Maharashtra counterpart to release the water to meet the drinking water requirements in several villages in Jamkhandi, Bilagi and Bagalkot taluks. Mr. Chavan spoke to Mr. Yeddyurappa over telephone on Saturday and assured to release the water. — Special Correspondent
