Special Correspondent

Undergoes crucial test successfully

JAIPUR: The boiler of the second unit of the 250 MW capacity at the Chhabra Super Thermal Power Project now under construction in Baran district of Rajasthan underwent a crucial test successfully over the weekend.

Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Chairman and Managing Director S. K. Kalla said here that following the hydraulic test the second unit would be synchronised in October this year. The first unit, synchronised on April 16, is likely to start commercial production in July.

“No leakage”

Mr. Kalla said all 13,500 joints in the boiler tubes were found intact without any signs of leakage during the hydraulic test. “The boiler is fit to function in the extremely high pressure and heat conditions,” he added. The test was conducted at a pressure of 273.50 kilograms per square centimetre.

Construction of the third and fourth units of 250 MW capacity each has also started under the second phase of the project’s first stage. Mr. Kalla said a target had been fixed to start the third unit by August 2011 and the fourth unit by October 2011. The total capacity of the Chhabra project will go up to 2,320 MW after the completion of all units.
