Innovative projects of students showcased

ON TRACK: Students of the KCG College of Technology demonstrate their project on Saturday.

CHENNAI: KCG College of Technology on Friday showcased innovative projects of its final year students, including one to prevent train accidents.

A team of four students headed by Sayan Roy designed a model of a train with an electronic remote-controlled widget.

The system has been developed to eliminate train accidents, said the team leader. It consists of an electronic remote-controlled widget (false engine) which travels ahead of the train. “The sensors would be programmed to detect any accident-causing obstacles, vibration errors, bombs-on-tracks and tilt errors,” said Saeed Ahmed Quareshi, a member of the team.

The widget detects the disruption and an alarm is activated in the engine of the train. If the driver of the train is not able to stop the train, the train is brought to an emergency halt.

“There is communication between the train and the widget through Radio Frequency,” said Amit Kumar Sinha, another member of the team.

Similarly five teams of students from the college demonstrated their projects successfully. The dynamic traffic control system by the team of Mohamed Nayeemudin explored a new way of designing a traffic system based on traffic density. “Our design gives priority to vehicles such as ambulances. It injects more efficiency in traffic control,” said K. Prajesh, a team member.

The intelligent car security system designed by a team of N. Anusha, U. Brinda and C. Dhivya using dynamic generation of random security codes is to prevent car thefts.

The GPS-based vehicle tracking and controlling system designed by a team led by G.Mahalakshmi uses technology to trace stolen cars in a cost-effective way.
