“Bio-technology will determine the future”

TAMBARAM: ‘The BioExpress,’ a monthly students’ bulletin of the School of Bioengineering of SRM University, Kattankulathur, was launched on Saturday.

M. Ponnavaiko, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, who received the first copy of the bulletin from P. Sathyanarayanan, Vice-Chancellor of the private university, said bio-technology, nano-technology and wireless technology would determine the future, and all of them were inter-dependant.

Appealing to students to be innovative and come up with ideas to work in their areas of interest, he urged them to be forthright and honest in their research as vast information available on the internet made it easy for students to access information.

Mr. Sathyanarayanan said that the institution was working with a pharmaceutical company to set up a clinical trials centre in the university’s premises. The centre would be set up on an area measuring 25,000 square feet and they would be spending about Rs. 70 lakh on this venture. He said that the university would also be playing a key role in the first Indian Youth Science Congress to be held in June, by looking after accommodation and transportation of participants.

D. Janakiraman, Professor of Computer Science Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, and N. Sethuraman and T.P. Ganesan, Registrar and Pro Vice-Chancellor respectively of SRM University were among others who spoke.
