Coimbatore: Based on a complaint from three journalists the police have registered a case against 20 persons under Sections 147 (unlawful assembly), 148 (unlawful assembly with deadly weapons), 324 (causing grievous hurt) and 294 (b) (using obscene language) of IPC in connection with the attack on the Army convoy by Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam cadres. Police said that the case would be investigated and forwarded to Army authorities for further action. The Inspector-General of Police, West Zone, Pramod Kumar and Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Coimbatore Range , M. Ramasubramani and Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore , N. Kannan formed special teams. Members of various media organisations staged a demonstration in the city to demand that the case should be investigated by the local police and should not be referred to Army authorities. The media accused the Army personnel of attacking its members.
