Madan sizzles

NEW DELHI: A fabulous century by opening batsman Chandan Madan 101 (102 balls, 11x4, 1x6) and a useful knock by Sachin Rana (37 n.o., 31 balls, 3x4s) enabled Air India beat Oil and Natural Gas Corporation by three wickets to win the 19th all-India Om Nath Sood memorial cricket tournament for the Opto Cup at the DDA Sports Complex, Pitampura here on Sunday.

Madan was declared the best batsman of the tournament and Amit Bhandari of ONGC the best bowler. Sachin Rana was declared the man of the tournament.

The scores: ONGC 231 for six in 40 overs (Radhey Shyam Gupta 84, Sandeep Sharma 56, Ajay Ratra 32) lost to Air India 235 for seven in 40 overs (Chandan Madan 101, Manvinder Bisla 41, Sachin Rana 37 n.o., Praveen Gupta three for 43).

DSA camp

The Delhi Soccer Association will hold an Open trial-cum-coaching camp from May 4 at the Ambedkar Stadium to pick the team for participation in the 63rd Senior National Championship for Santosh Trophy to be held in Tamil Nadu from May 24 to June 15.

Interested players may report at 4 p.m. to coach Surinder Kumar or the DSA secretary N.K. Bhatia.

The DSA has, meanwhile, requested the Goa Football Association and the Indian Football Association to release Delhi origin players — Vinay Singh (Churchill Brothers) and Sunil Chhetri (East Bengal).

Ridhi wins title

Ridhi Bajaj defeated Shivansh Chadha 11-2, 11-4 to win the title in the tiny tots section of the 17th St. Columba’s open table tennis tournament here.

In the cadet boys’ section, Rohan Wadhwa defeated Nilesh Patnayak 11-9, 11-3, 13-11 to enter the fourth round while Vidit Chawla overcame Sidharth Dogra 8-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7 in the third round of the boys’ singles. — Special Correspondent
