HAL stays on course

Bangalore: Defending champion HAL moved one step closer to retaining the title in the BDFA super division league in progress at the Football Stadium. In a crucial penultimate round match here on Sunday, HAL defeated MEG 2-1.

HAL currently leads the league with 32 points from 12 matches while challenger KSP, which notched an easy 2-0 triumph against Southern Blues earlier in the day, has 31 points from 12 outings.

Both HAL and KSP have one match each to finish their league engagements and if HAL can defeat RWF, then the trophy will continue to adorn its cupboard.

A mundane first half sprang to life in the 41st minute as HAL’s R.C. Prakash slotted in a neat pass to skipper Xavier Vijaykumar who in turn found an ally in Dada Nabeel. MEG custodian Sujith had no clue to Nabeel’s header.

MEG found the equaliser in the 54th minute as an unmarked Ramu caught a back-pedalling HAL defence unawares.

Satish junior’s left-footer off a diagonal from R.C. Prakash bulged the net in the 73rd minute. Earlier, Pradeep Kumar (1st minute) and Kiran Kumar (78th minute) scored as KSP defeated Southern Blues 2-0. — Principal Correspondent
