Much-awaited annual fair gets under way

In perfect sync: Artistes performing a welcome dance at the inauguration of the 35th All India Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition-2009 in Vijayawada on Sunday.

VIJAYAWADA: Vice-Chancellor of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences A.V. Krishnam Raju on Sunday said the annual exhibition hosted by the Krishna Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition Society at Swaraj Maidan served as a perfect platform for growth of industrialists and agriculturists alike.

Addressing the inaugural function of the 35th All-India Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition – 2009, Mr. Krishnam Raju said the event was a unique blend of entertainment and education. He said commencement of the grand event on the World Laughter Day was although accidental, but it was a happy co-incidence.

Krishna district Collector and honorary president of the exhibition society N. Sridhar pointed out that the uninterrupted conduct of the exhibition for the last 35 years had been serving as a perfect occasion for city-dwellers to unwind and feast on the fun and entertainment made available at the venue.

The stature of the event had been steadily growing what with the Society members making all out efforts to add innovative modes to amuse and educate the crowd.

He said if the agricultural segment was a hub of activity for progressive farmers who displayed their innovative tools and other models, skilled entrepreneurs and students had separate zones to showcase their talent.

Earlier, the society’s honorary secretary G. V. Rama Rao read out the report of the society’s activities through which the members fulfilled their social responsibility. He said the theme of the current event was ‘Build the Nation’. Explaining about new features, he said the BSNL and several other Central and State government wings had offered to put up stalls at the venue this year.

Handicrafts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu were some of the highlights.

The meeting was preceded by classical dance performance by Saumya and her group.
