Sir, — In the wake of concreting of several roads in Mangalore, the garbage bins have been removed from the roadsides. As a result, garbage is being dumped everywhere in the city. This is making the roads ugly and unhygienic. I request the authorities to get cement garbage bins placed at important places and ensure that they are cleared regularly, lest it will cause health problems to the people. J.F. D’Souza, Mangalore Throwing slippers at leadersSir, — The recent incident of a man throwing a slipper at Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa during a Bharatiya Janata Party’s convention in Chennarayapatna in Hassan district should be dealt with sternly. The 2009 general elections will be remembered for the many incidents of throwing slippers at dignitaries. The best form of protest is to cast their votes in favour of the deserving candidate. Syed Khaja, Gulbarga Initiate action against staffSir, — It appears that the Deputy Commissioner of Chikmagalur does not know that the e-mail address of one person cannot be used by others. Instead of accepting the carelessness of government staff, which has been exhibited by their inaction even after Viswanath’s clarification on the error that has occurred in sending an e-mail about the President’s tour, he has tried to pass the buck to others. Hope, Karnataka Government initiates disciplinary action against the staff concerned to ensure alertness at least in matters concerning high dignitaries of the country. V.S. Ganeshan, Bangalore Repair roadSir, — Last year, the BBMP constructed a bridge across the Raja canal, near the MasjidinLakshmidevi nagar in Bangalore. But the stretch between Lakshmdevinagar and Jai Bhuvaneshwarinagar has not been re-laid. The road has large potholes. I request the authorities to repair this road before the onset of monsoon. Santhosh, Bangalore Child labourSir, — It is surprising that children were asked to carry the electronic voting machines in the Lok Sabha elections, as reported in some newspapers. Does this not tantamount to violation of child labour policy? B.S. Raghavendra Rao, Bangalore Readers can send their letters to: letters.mangalore @thehindu.co.in
