VIJAYAWADA: Residents of Bhavanipuram, Telephone Colony and a few other nearby colonies on Saturday opposed the closure of Crombay-Telephone colony road. The residents contended that it was a government land, and some private people were trying to grab it. On learning this, CPI city secretary K. Subba Raju, his party corporator G. Koteswara Rao, TDP corporator P. Nageswara Rao and others reached the spot. They appraised the situation to the officials of the town planning wing of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). Verify recordsThey asked the officials to verify the records whether the claims of private people were genuine or not. Till the claims were proved, the road should remain open for public usage. The land could be acquired under compulsory acquisition rules and compensation paid to the landowner, if claims were proved correct. The officials should bear it in mind that the closure of road would cause inconvenience to the local people, they said.
