I request the authorities in charge of Ward 148 Section 10 to black top the muddy road of Vedachala Garden off City Union Bank, Mandaveli. We get Metrowater and other facilities. It will be better if steps are taken to repair the road. P.A. Ranganathan Mandaveli Stray cattle menaceThis is with reference to a news report on stray cattle menace that appeared in The Hindu dated April 26. In 2004, the Madras High Court Bench passed an order towards rearing cattle in Chennai Corporation limits on a writ petition filed by the president of Dairy and Milk Vendors’ Association. The bench ordered the civic body to follow instructions with a lenience to milk vendors for obtaining licence for rearing dairy animals fixing a timeframe besides enforcing a law on stray cattle particularly on roads and residential colonies to prevent accidents. But, the Corporation authorities are yet to do anything in this regard. The ICF and the Southern Railway Colonies in Ayanavaram suffer the most from stray cattle menace. Saplings planted by Tamil Nadu Forest Department are consumed by the cattle. Neither the Corporation nor the railway authorities are taking steps to prevent this. I request the authorities keep a check on stray cattle and promote green cover. K. Ramadoss Ayanavaram Shift Tasmac shopThe entire stretch of GST Road-Chromepet is accident prone not only due to traffic congestion but also encroachments. The area near the traffic signal is more dangerous as there is Tasmac shop nearby. Customers who come to this shop park their two-wheelers in the front, which occupies a large part of the road. This forces the public to use the GST Road carriageway. People find it difficult to cross this point to go to the railway station and bus stand. Women find it tough to cross this area, thanks to the Tasmac customers. I request the authorities concerned to shift this shop elsewhere. The traffic police and the Highways Department can also help. Srimathy Santhanam Chromepet Request for more busesM.C. Road and G.A. Road area in Old Washermenpet are thickly populated areas. There are several commercial establishments in these areas such as retail and wholesale cut piece cloth shops, readymade outfit outlets, banks, wedding halls, hospitals, clinics, and schools. Bus route no. 4D and 6, which were operated in this area, were withdrawn some years ago. There are no direct bus services from this area to LIC, the Marina Beach, Thiruvanmiyur, Egmore, Central, etc. Route No. 56C and C56C alone are operated between Thiruvottiyur and Broadway. This leads to overcrowding in the buses. Residents of these areas would benefit if the authorities introduce more bus services. C. Baskaran Old Washermenpet Delivery of lettersDelivery of letters from Chrompet Post Office is unsystematic. The postman arrives at different timings each day. He comes at 3 p.m. on some days and 4.30 p.m. on other days. He also delivers letters at about 7 p.m. sometimes. It appears as if the timings have been left to the convenience of the postmen. Letters posted in most of the boxes in this area are cleared before 3 p.m. A person cannot respond to urgent letters and send a feedback before the last clearance if the letters are delivered after 3 p.m. This forces the residents to look up to courier services. I request the authorities concerned to intervene and ensure that mails are delivered at a fixed hour, say before 1 p.m. every day. R.V. Ravi Kumar Chrompet Expedite street wideningTraffic on Mosque Street in Saidapet West has increased to alarming proportions. The road width is around 10 metres and at rush hours, it becomes too difficult to cross the road. Several accidents have taken place in this area, which have gone unreported. To make matters worse, several cars are parked permanently on either side of the road, restricting the space available for pedestrians. One must be cautious enough when a heavy vehicle moves, to take ‘refuge’ in the gap between two parked cars. Neither the traffic police nor Corporation authorities seem to take any action to set things right. A proposal for widening the Mosque Street has been pending for many years. This work should be expedited . V.R. Sundaram Saidapet
