Children’s theatre workshop focusses on Galileo

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: A three-day theatre workshop for school children organised by the theatre group of AUP School, Azhchavattam, started at the school campus on Monday.

Theatre director and playwright Manoj Narayanan and theatre activist Aboobacker are leading the camp. 50 students selected from different schools are participating in the camp.

The workshop is aimed at creating awareness among the students about the works of Galileo, who has been called the father of science, especially when the world is observing the 400th year of his major scientific accomplishments and also since the year 2009 is being observed as the World Science year, said K.M. Chandran, a teacher at the Azhchavattam school.

The theatre workshop will throw light on the contributions of the Galileo to the sphere of modern observational astronomy and modern physics besides other things.

“The workshop will produce a play, titled ‘Sourayoodhathinde Sangadam’ (Melancholy of the Milky Way), which will be staged at the Regional Science Centre here on the World Lunar Day on July 19,” said Mr. Chandran.
