dated May 5, 1959: Plea for English medium

A powerful plea for continuing English as the medium of instruction in the Universities was made in the Lok Sabha on May 4 by a majority of members who took part in a two-hour inconclusive debate on the University Grants Commission’s report for 1957-58. The Minister of Education, Dr. K.L. Shrimali, said that government would like regional languages to be the medium of instruction in the Universities in course of time.
