dated May 5, 1959: Defence equipment

Britain has offered to provide the necessary technical “know-how” to India to help develop indigenous production of defence equipment in the Ordnance factories, according to well-informed sources in New Delhi. The offer, it is understood, came during the recent visit of Mr. Aubrey Jones, British Minister of Supply, who made a comprehensive tour of ordnance factories operating under the Defence Ministry. Experts of the Defence Ministry have recently been making earnest efforts to produce more defence equipment locally in a bid to save foreign exchange.
