Maruti expects higher sales

Special Correspondent

To recruit more rural dealership sales executives

Investments in R&D, marketing initiatives planned

NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL) hopes to see its sales grow up to 5 per cent in the current fiscal due to increased demand from rural areas and overseas markets, its Managing Director Shinzo Nakanishi said here on Monday. “Last year also we had good demand from rural areas. We will be setting up more rural dealerships to boost our sales,” Mr. Nakanishi told journalists here.

“The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has said the industry would grow by 3-5 per cent in the current financial year. MSIL also hopes to clock the same numbers,” he said.

Stating that they would be hiring more people in its sales and marketing division, Mr. Nakanishi said: “We will recruit more rural dealership sales executives (RDSEs).” Maruti has at present 2,500 RDSEs. MSIL would induct 1,000 dealer sales executives (DSEs) in its 680 outlets across the country. These outlets have a present strength of 15,000 people.

On exports, Mr. Nakanishi said MSIL would double its shipments to reach one-lakh units in the current fiscal of its four models — A-Star, Alto, M800 and Zen Estilo. The company will also be strengthening its distribution network. Mr. Nakanishi said the company would make fresh investments in research and development and marketing initiatives. “Setting up stockyards for finished products and spare parts at the regional level is high on the agenda so as to reduce our transportation time, cost and mainly delivery time to customers,” he said.
